Baboon

Chacma Baboons are widely spread over almost the whole of Southern Africa.
They are grey to almost black in colour and characteristically carries the first section
of the tail upwards while the rest droops. The buttock area consists of thick, pink,
hairless skin.
Baboons can adopt to any habitat but prefer mountainous areas, or areas with
plentiful trees.
A male leader leads a number of families, with the support of a few dominant males.
A definite hierarchy exists within each group and individuals need to constantly defend
their positions.
Baboons forage during the mornings while a male baboon acts as guard - warning
the group with a loud "bawchom" call.
Lion and leopard are enemies to the baboon.
