A medium-sized antelope found on the open plains of the South African Highveld. It has a brown coat with a white belly and buttock area up to under the tail. The Blesbok differs from the Bontebok by the white blaze on its face that is usually didvided between the eyes and by having less white on its coat. Both sexes have horns with average lengths of about 15 inches (38 centimetres). Blesbok males are solitary and court female herds in mating season. During this season serious fighting occurs between males. It only feeds on grass, especially short grass.
