Red Hartebeest

A large antelope (weighing about 350 pounds) with an elongated face and reddish brown coat.
Its back slopes slightly downward and both sexes have horns of which the ends point backward. Horns are usually about 20 inches (51 centimetres) long.
The Red Hartebeest is a fast runner and has an inquisitive nature, often stopping and turning to reinvestigate.
It stays in open areas or grassy plains in dry savannah and feeds exclusively on grass. The Red Hartebeest can go without water for long periods.
Large herds are formed, sometimes consisting of a few hundred animals.
