Nyala

The Nyala is a graceful, slender antelope. Males have spriral shaped horns of about 23
inches (58 centimetres), weigh approximately 220 pounds (100 kilograms) and have a white
chevron mark between the eyes.
The male is dark grey in colour while the is female is reddish brown. Both sexes have
white vertical stripes on the flanks and males have long fringes of hair on the neck and belly.
Nyala form small herds and members move unhindered between herds.
Older males usually remains solitary or form small herds of their own.
Nyala feeds on leaves, newly sprouted grass and fruit and they are dependent on water.
They are found in dense bush close to water in dry woodland areas.
The Nyala is prey to lion, leopard and hyena.
